Jacob Kite shows off a gator trout
|
Jacob is one of the best 6 year old anglers I have had onboard The RedfishHunter. His daddy has taught him the art of fishing well...
What a day... We started off the morning casting topwater plugs for trout. The first one to the boat was a 23 inch 4 pounder. Good start....
This was one of many nice trout we caught.
We used a variety of methods. Topwater, using spooks, and Mirrorlure Top Dogs. Popping corks with 1/8 oz Cotee jigs and Salt Water Assassins Blurp scented baits. Live shrimp and casting 1/8 oz jigs with soft plastics.
When the trout bite slowed, we headed to another spot and Jacob hung into a rod bending, drag screaming Bubba!!!! After a 10 minute battle on light tackle and with his Daddy, Kevin coaching Jacob brought a nice, shark to the boat.

It was fun watching him fight this fish. He held the rod under his arm first. When he got tired with this method he put the rod between his legs and continued to reel. Kevin and I about fell overboard laughing. It was funny to see, but effective. Jacob never missed a beat. He chased that fish all around the boat and did a great job fighting "His" shark.
Boy, was he excited. But, I think Dad was even more excited. Take a look at those smiles. That's what it's all about. Making memories with your kids. Jacob is still talking about his shark.....
We compleded the day catching a mixture of jacks, ladyfish and redfish.
Yep, another great day catching with friends.
As a matter of fact, the next morning, I was at the dock at MacRaes on The Homosassa River waiting for my clients for the day to arrive and my cell phone rang.
It was Kevin and Jacob, thanking me for the great day fishing and makin' memories. A most rewarding message came from Jacob when he said in his sweet 6 year old considerate voice, "Captain Ed, my arms are sore from fighting those big fish. Thank you for a great day with my Dad."
Folks that's why I'm a guide. It's moments like this that make it all worthwile. God has richly blessed my career and it has been filled with with many special memories like this.
Until next time......
Captain Ed
