Fall Fishing Extravaganza!!!!!!
Report Date: October 20, 2003
The weather has been awesome lately and the fishing has been just as great. Limits of trout and Redfish have been common on recent trips with many Reds being oversized.
The fish are plenty hungry!! It's not uncommon to catch 40-60 trout each day and mix in some hard fighting jacks and bluefish and the fishing doesn't get any better.
Recent trips with the Jose Morales, Hugh Downing and Matt Wheeler parties were unbelievable!! Hugh and his mother spent 3 solid hours of constant hook ups with big bluefish and jacks. We caught over 60 and lost I don't know how many. The drags were smoking all afternoon!
My son Jeremy had some time off from Grad school at Florida and came down to fish a day. The night before, we tied some flies designed for the blues and jacks and decided we would attack them with our fly rods.
Man!!! What a day!!! We took the hooks off a Mirrorlure Top Dog and used it as a teaser. We would long cast it and draw the fish close to the boat, then cast the fly to them. Bam!! Instant hookup almost every time on our expertly(?) tied flies. We used 50 pound mono leader after they bit through our wire leader the first cast.
Try landing a 5-7 lb Bluefish on a 7 wt. flyrod and you have instant fun. We caught more fish than we could count. A perfect Father/Son outing.
If you would like to experience a day like these, give me a call or email to book your trip.
Until later.....May the Great Master of all Fishermen be with us til we meet again....
