Catching report-Homosassa Catchin' Spots and Dots
Report Date: March 21, 2011
Yesterday, I took Jerry and Debbie Robbins from Ocala along with my wife, Sandi out for a day of catchin'.
After watching the monkeys at "Monkey Island" in the Homosassa River next to Riverside Resort, we headed out through the backcountry in search of mean and hungry fish...
As we motored down the River, a group of friendly porpoise came alongside and gave us an escort. Coming up and surfacing alongside the boat, they would criscross in front and playfully put on a show....
We started out on the outer flats in search of spanish mackerel until the tide came in on the inside. We put out a chumblock and started a chum line near some rocks I have marked on the GPS. We caught spanish, remoras, trout and a few other species. However, the spanish mackerel were scattered.
The day before on another charter, they were thick and we caught around 30-40 up to eight pounds.
We headed inside into the backcountry in search of trout and reds(spots & dots).

Debbie and Sandi were on the mark and caught some nice trout before Debbie hooked up with her first big Redfish.
She had made a cast up to the mangroves and her cork took off. She set the hook and the rod bent double and drag started screaming and the line left the reel. On the other end of her line was 'Ol Mr Red. And it looked like a good 'un.
Debbie did a great job working the big fish and after many big runs and a lot of "Oh MY's!!!" she brought the big fish to the net.
